23 And aconcerning Jezebel the Lord also spoke, saying, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.’  
24 The dogs shall eat awhoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field.”  
25 But athere was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, bbecause Jezebel his wife stirred him up.  
26 And he behaved very abominably in following idols, according to all athat the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.  
27 So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and aput sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.  
28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

I & II Kings

THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOKS OF KINGS, in the ancient copies of the Hebrew Bible, constitute one book. Various titles have been given them; in the Septuagint and the Vulgate they are called the Third and Fourth Books of Kings. The authorship of these books is unknown; but the prevailing opinion is that they were compiled by Ezra, or one of the later prophets, from the ancient documents that are so frequently referred to in the course of the history as of public and established authority. Their inspired character was acknowledged by the Jewish Church, which ranked them in the sacred canon; and, besides, it is attested by our Lord, who frequently quotes from them (compare I Kings 17:9; II Kings 5:14 with Luke 4:24-27; I Kings 10:1 with Matthew 12:42).
