39:1  Now Joseph was brought down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh, the chief of the executioners, an Egyptian man, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.

39:2  And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

39:3  And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hands.

39:4  And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him. And he made him overseer over his house, and he put him in charge of all he had.

39:5  And it came to pass from the time he had made him overseer in his house, and over all he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

39:6  And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand—and did not concern himself with anything that he had except the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome in form and good looking in appearance.

39:7  And after these things it came to pass that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph. And she said, "Lie with me."

39:8  But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, my master does not know what is in the house with me, and he has given all that he has into my hand.

39:9  There is none greater in this house than I. Neither has he kept back anything from me except you because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"

39:10  And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie with her, or to be with her.

39:11  And it came to pass on a certain day that he came into the house to do his work. And none of the men of the house were inside.

39:12  And she caught him by his robe, saying, "Lie with me." And he left his robe in her hand and fled, and got out of the house.

39:13  And when she saw that he had left his robe in her hand and had fled,

39:14  She called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, "See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice.

39:15  And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his robe with me and fled and got out."

39:16  And she laid up his robe beside her until his lord came home.

39:17  And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, "The Hebrew servant which you have brought to us came in to me to mock me.

39:18  And as I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his robe with me and ran out."

39:19  And when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying, "Your servant did this to me," his wrath was kindled.

39:20  And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound. And he was there in the prison.

39:21  But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

39:22  And the keeper of the prison gave all the prisoners in the prison into Joseph's hand. And whatever they did there, was his doing.

39:23  The keeper of the prison did not concern himself with anything under his hand because the LORD was with Joseph, and whatever he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
