14:3 The mouth of the foolish calls for a rod for his back, But the lips of the wise will protect them. |
14:4 Where no oxen reside, the manger stays clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox. |
14:5 A trustworthy witness will not lie, But a false witness utters lies. |
14:6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge comes easily to one who has understanding. |
14:7 Leave the presence of a fool, Or you will not discern words of knowledge. |
14:8 The wisdom of the sensible leads him to understand his way, But the foolishness of fools leads to deceit. |
14:9 Fools mock at sin, But among the upright one finds good will. |
14:10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its joy. |
14:11 The house of the wicked will suffer destruction, But the tent of the upright will flourish. |
14:12 A way seems right to a man, But its end leads to death. |
14:13 Even in laughter the heart may suffer pain, And the end of joy may turn into grief. |
14:14 The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways, But a good man will find satisfaction with his. |
14:15 The naive believes everything, But the sensible man considers his steps. |
14:16 A wise man displays caution and turns away from evil, But a fool acts arrogantly and carelessly. |
14:17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And people hate a man of evil devices. |
14:18 The naive inherit foolishness, But the sensible receive the crown of knowledge. |
14:19 The evil will bow down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous. |
14:20 The poor receives hatred from his neighbor, But many love the rich. |
14:21 He who despises his neighbor sins, But people find happiness who show graciousness to the poor. |
14:22 Will they not go astray who devise evil? But kindness and truth will come to those who devise good. |
14:23 In all labor one finds profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty. |
14:24 The crown of the wise consists of their riches, But the folly of fools consists of their foolishness. |
14:25 A truthful witness saves lives, But he who utters lies acts treacherously. |
14:26 In the fear of the LORD one finds strong confidence, And his children will have refuge. |
14:27 The fear of the LORD resembles a fountain of life, That one may avoid the snares of death. |
14:28 In a multitude of people one sees a king's glory, But in the dearth of people a prince finds his ruin. |
14:29 He who shows patience has great understanding, But he who has a quick-temper exalts folly. |
14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the body, But passion brings rottenness to the bones. |
14:31 He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, But he who shows grace to the needy honors Him. |
14:32 The wicked becomes thrust down by his wrongdoing, But the righteous has a refuge when he dies. |
14:33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, But the hearts of fools reveals its folly. |
14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin disgraces any people. |
14:35 The kings favors a servant who acts wisely, But displays his anger toward him who acts shamefully. |
