12:1  Now six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had died, and whom He had raised from the dead.

12:2  There they made a supper for Him, and Martha served; and Lazarus was one of those who sat with Him.

12:3  Mary then took a pound of pure spikenard ointment worth a great price and anointed Jesus' feet, wiping His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the aroma of the ointment.

12:4  As a result, one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who was about to betray Him, said,

12:5  "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred silver coins, and given to the poor?"

12:6  Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and carried what was put in it.

12:7  Then Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has been keeping it toward the day of My burial.

12:8  For you have the poor with you always, but you do not always have Me."

12:9  Then a great crowd of the Jews found out that He was there. And they came, not only because of Jesus, but also that they might see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.

12:10  But the chief priests took counsel in order that they might kill Lazarus also;

12:11  Because by reason of him, many of the Jews were leaving them and believing in Jesus.

12:12  On the next day, a great crowd of people who had come for the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem,

12:13  Took branches from palm trees and went out to meet Him, and were shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel."

12:14  Now after finding a young donkey, Jesus sat upon it, exactly as it is written:

12:15  "Fear not, daughter of Sion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey."

12:16  And His disciples did not understand these things at the beginning; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him, and that they had done these things to Him.

12:17  Then the group that was with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, testified of what they had seen.

12:18  Because of this, the people also met Him, for they had heard of this miracle that He had done.

12:19  Then the Pharisees said among themselves, "Do you see that we are not gaining in any way? Look! The world has gone after Him."

12:20  Now there were certain Greeks among those who had come up to worship at the feast.

12:21  And these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee; and they asked him, saying, "Sir, we desire to see Jesus."

12:22  Philip came and told Andrew, and Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

12:23  But Jesus answered them, saying, "The time has come for the Son of man to be glorified.

12:24  Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

12:25  The one who loves his life shall lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world shall keep it unto eternal life.

12:26  If anyone will serve Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall My servant be also. And if anyone serves Me, him shall the Father honor.

12:27  Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour? But for this very purpose I have come to this hour.

12:28  Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again."

12:29  Then the people standing there, who heard it, said, "It thundered." Others said, "An angel spoke to Him."

12:30  Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come because of Me, but because of you.

12:31  Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

12:32  And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself."

12:33  But He said this to signify by what death He was about to die.

12:34  The people answered Him, "We have heard out of the law that the Christ lives forever, and why do You say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?"

12:35  Then Jesus said to them, "Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness will not overtake you. For the one who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

12:36  While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become the children of light." Jesus spoke these things and then departed from them and was in hiding.

12:37  Although He had done so many miracles in their presence, they did not believe in Him,

12:38  So that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled who said, "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"

12:39  For this very reason they could not believe because again Isaiah said,

12:40  "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts so that they would not see with their eyes and understand with their hearts, and be converted, and I would heal them."

12:41  Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory and spoke concerning Him.

12:42  But even so, many among the rulers believed in Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;

12:43  For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

12:44  Then Jesus called out and said, "The one who believes in Me does not believe in Me, but in Him Who sent Me.

12:45  And the one who sees Me sees Him Who sent Me.

12:46  I have come as a light into the world so that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness.

12:47  But if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

12:48  The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has one who judges him; the word which I have spoken, that shall judge him in the last day.

12:49  For I have not spoken from Myself; but the Father, Who sent Me, gave Me commandment Himself, what I should say and what I should speak.

12:50  And I know that His commandment is eternal life. Therefore, whatever I speak, I speak exactly as the Father has told Me."
