The meaning of Hold in the Bible
(From International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)hold: In the American Standard Revised Version frequently "stronghold" (Judges 9:49; I Samuel 22:4; I Samuel 24:22; II Samuel 5:17; II Samuel 23:14; I Chronicles 11:16; I Chronicles 12:16). See FORTIFICATION. In Revelation 18:2 for the King James Version "cage" (phulake) the Revised Version (British and American) substitutes, as in first clause, "hold," and in the margin "prison."
