Satan Attacks Job’s Health

1 Again athere was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.
2 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” aSatan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, aa blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he bholds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, cto destroy him without cause.”
4 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

No entry exists in Forerunner Commentary for Job 2:1.

Job 2:1-3

Now Satan had a cause or a reason for doing it. It was to discredit God, and God was accomplishing His cause and/or purpose. In Job 1:9, Satan used the same term "for nothing" to accuse Job of having an ulterior purpose for serving God. The accuser said, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" And then God uses the same term here in verse 3 where He says, "You incite Me against him to destroy him without cause." Well, the term "for nothing" and the term "without cause" have the same basic meaning.

So God threw it back in his face, in one sense, his own accusation. God taunted the accuser with the counter-accusation that Satan himself is the one who wants to see injustice done. Without cause means there was no immediate sinfulness in Job that called for punishment.
