Prayer to God in Time of Trouble

1 Vindicate ^ame, O God,
And ^bplead my cause against an ungodly nation;
Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man!

2 For You are the God of my strength;
Why do You cast me off?
^aWhy do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

3 ^aOh, send out Your light and Your truth!
Let them lead me;
Let them bring me to ^bYour holy hill
And to Your¹ tabernacle.

4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
To God my exceeding joy;
And on the harp I will praise You,
O God, my God.

5 ^aWhy are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The¹ help of my countenance and my God.

What Does Psalms 43:3 Mean?

Psalm 43:3

In this context, light and truth are basically synonymous. The Hebrews had a way of "doubling-up" or "doubling-over" a word, a term, a phrase, so that one would emphasize the other, despite both meaning essentially the same thing. This method hits a concept from two slightly different angles so that it becomes more emphatic. Light and truth are the similar ideas, the word "truth" channeling the author's illustration of light and what it signifies. Light illustrates, emphasizes, and expands the abstract idea of truth.
