Genesis 7:1-3
Since the law of clean and unclean was in force in Noah's time, and possibly in Abel's lifetime (Genesis 4:4), it was not made obsolete with the passing of the Old Covenant. This is a vital principle to remember regarding the Old and New Covenants: What did not originate with the Old Covenant did not die with it.

What Does Genesis 7:1 Mean?
In Genesis 7:1, the LORD invites Noah and his household into the ark, recognizing Noah's righteousness in a corrupt generation. The term "household" clarifies that God's intent was to save Noah's family, not merely a structure, using "house" and "household" interchangeably. God's plan for escape was meticulously originated and engineered, requiring Noah and his sons to cooperatively prepare by building the ark. Surrounded by worldwide trouble, they were gathered into one place for safety during the devastation. Their preparation was both physical, in constructing the ark, and spiritual, through righteousness before God, demonstrating the integration of physical and spiritual efforts in fulfilling God's command.
