7 aThen the dust will return to the earth as it was,
bAnd the spirit will return to God cwho gave it. 
8 “Vanitya of vanities,” says the Preacher,
“All is vanity.”

9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and aset in order many proverbs.  
10 The Preacher sought to find1 acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth.  
11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of1 scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.  
12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and amuch study is wearisome to the flesh.  
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
aFear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all. 
14 For aGod will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

What Does Ecclesiastes 12:9 Mean?



Ecclesiastes 12:8-13

Verse 8 reminds the reader where Solomon's treatise began. A person's life will end in vanity if he does not take advantage of the life of faith that God has given to him. His life will simply end in meaninglessness.

Solomon advises us to fear God and keep His commandments. He is saying to eat and drink joyfully, but to do it in balance. We should never lose control of ourselves. We need to work with purpose and do it diligently. It is best to enjoy our marriage with our mate. We are to seek wisdom and use it.
