Isaiah 50:1
Excerpted from: The Purpose of the ChurchA divorce took place. Isaiah 50:1 indicates the same thing. Divorces are granted where a marriage has gone astray. Because of this, twelve places in the Old Testament where Israel is called the congregation of the Lord. He is showing up a measure of possession because a marriage had been entered into and children, at least metaphorically, had been born as a result of this marriage. So it does show through the use of that phrase a certain degree of sanctity due to their marriage, but never the degree of the “Israel of God” as shown in the New Testament. The Israel of God mentioned Galatians 6:16. Here is why, in Deuteronomy 29, there was never the sanctity that God expects of His church in the New Testament under the New Covenant.
