Isaiah 60:1

The Gentiles Bless Zion

1 Arise, ashine;
For your light has come!
And bthe glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The aGentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 “Lifta up your eyes all around, and see:
They all gather together, bthey come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,
And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
5 Then you shall see and become radiant,
And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because athe abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
6 The multitude of camels shall cover your land,
The dromedaries of Midian and aEphah;
All those from bSheba shall come;
They shall bring cgold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
7 All the flocks of aKedar shall be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with bacceptance on My altar,
And cI will glorify the house of My glory.
8 “Who are these who fly like a cloud,
And like doves to their roosts?

What Does Isaiah 60:1 Mean?

In relation to Isaiah 60:1, the call to "Arise, shine" mirrors the rising sun, signaling a time to work and bring forth solutions. The earth, shrouded in a thick cloud of darkness, finds relief as light dispels it. The phrases "arise," "shine," "glory of the LORD," and "brightness of your rising" point to a resurrection to glory, anticipating the return of Christ. Through Zion's rising, humanity will experience prosperity across all facets—morally, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically—reflecting the transformative power of the light and glory of the LORD that has come upon the people.

Isaiah 60:1-3

The metaphor is drawn from the rising of the sun and being able to get to work and produce solutions. God pictures the whole earth covered by a thick cloud of darkness that dissolves in the light. The terms "arise," "shine," "glory of the LORD," and "brightness of your rising" give every indication of our resurrection to glory to meet the returning Christ. Because of the "rising" of Zion, mankind will be prospered in every way, morally, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically.
