Impending Destruction from the North
Gather yourselves to flee from the midst of Jerusalem!
Blow the trumpet in Tekoa,
And set up a signal-fire in aBeth Haccerem;
bFor disaster appears out of the north,
And great destruction.
They shall pitch their tents against her all around.
Each one shall pasture in his own place.”
Arise, and let us go up bat noon.
Woe to us, for the day goes away,
For the shadows of the evening are lengthening.
And let us destroy her palaces.”
“Cut down trees,
And build a mound against Jerusalem.
This is the city to be punished.
She is full of oppression in her midst.
So she wells up with her wickedness.
bViolence and plundering are heard in her.
Before Me continually are1 grief and wounds.
Lest aMy soul depart from you;
Lest I make you desolate,
A land not inhabited.”
“They shall thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Israel;
As a grape-gatherer, put your hand back into the branches.”
That they may hear?
Indeed their aear is uncircumcised,
And they cannot give heed.
Behold, bthe word of the Lord is a reproach to them;
They have no delight in it.
aI am weary of holding it in.
“I will pour it out bon the children outside,
And on the assembly of young men together;
For even the husband shall be taken with the wife,
The aged with him who is full of days.
Fields and wives together;
For I will stretch out My hand
Against the inhabitants of the land,” says the Lord.

What Does Jeremiah 6:1 Mean?
Jeremiah 6:1
Trumpets symbolize a loud, warning cry of impending danger. These verses from the prophets impart a dire warning to those living in the end time: The day of the Lord is at hand, a day of darkness, gloominess, and clouds over man's society! The prophets strongly admonish the ministry to raise their voices as trumpets to warn of sudden, terrifying destruction!
Though originally intended for Israel, these warnings apply specifically to the called-out children of God since we are the ones living in the end time with the understanding of God's plan! In fact, we have the most to lose by ignoring these stern prophecies of death and destruction. They are admonishments to prepare ourselves spiritually for the tumult ahead. Notice that these verses stress repentance, fasting, and prayer, and who but God's elect truly understand them?
