Micah 5:4
Compare all

The Coming Messiah

2 “But you, aBethlehem bEphrathah,
Though you are little camong the dthousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be eRuler in Israel,
fWhose goings forth are from1 of old,
From everlasting.”
3 Therefore He shall give them up,
Until the time that ashe who is in labor has given birth;
Then bthe remnant of His brethren
Shall return to the children of Israel.
4 And He shall stand and afeed His flock
In the strength of the Lord,
In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God;
And they shall abide,
For now He bshall be great
To the ends of the earth;
5 And this One ashall be peace.
When the Assyrian comes into our land,
And when he treads in our palaces,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight princely men.

Judgment on Israel’s Enemies

6 They shall1 waste with the sword the land of Assyria,
And the land of aNimrod at its entrances;
Thus He shall bdeliver us from the Assyrian,
When he comes into our land
And when he treads within our borders.
7 Then athe remnant of Jacob
Shall be in the midst of many peoples,
bLike dew from the Lord,
Like showers on the grass,
That1 tarry for no man
Nor1 wait for the sons of men.

What Does Micah 5:4 Mean?

Micah 5:1-5

This prophecy does not necessarily state where the Messiah would be born but that the home base, town, or city of the family of the Promised Seed would be Bethlehem Ephrathah. He was indeed born there. David's particular family line (see Ruth 4:18-22) begins with a son, Perez, that Tamar bore to Jacob's son, Judah. Five generations later, Salmon was born into that family line, and his son was Boaz, who married Ruth the Moabitess. These two, who made their home in Bethlehem (Ruth 1:1, 19; 2:4), produced Obed, who fathered Jesse, David's father. Jesse and David were also from Bethlehem (I Samuel 16:1, 4, 18).
