Matthew 26:20
Compare all
18 And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, a“My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.” ’ ”
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20 aWhen evening had come, He sat down with the twelve.
21 Now as they were eating, He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will abetray Me.”
22 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?”
23 He answered and said, a“He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me.
24 The Son of Man indeed goes just aas it is written of Him, but bwoe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! cIt would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”

Matthew 26:20-25

Just as an aside before we turn to Luke, please note in verse 22 all the disciples addressed Christ as Lord, while in verse 25 Judas addressed Him as Rabbi. It is interesting because it gives us a sense of Judas' commitment. The others looked at Christ as one with supreme authority, while it indicates Judas' perspective did not fully see Christ as the Messiah who fulfilled all the prophecy of God's Word. Although this is surely something that needs a complete sermon by itself, perhaps the following cited section from a word study on "rabbi" might help put Judas' perspective on Jesus in view.

Matthew 26:20-22

It is such a subtle difference, and yet it is there. Once you begin to see it, it is so obvious. Mark did not look at Christ in the same way as Matthew did. Whoever Luke's sources were, we are going to see that they were different from Matthew, Mark, and John in the way it was approached. We understand it has all the same Author. God is the Author. These are God-breathed. God knew what He was doing! That is instruction for you and me, so that we can see the multifaceted personality of Jesus Christ and the approach His disciples had toward Him. It is very interesting.
