Luke 21:14
Compare all
12 aBut before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and bprisons. cYou will be brought before kings and rulers dfor My name’s sake.
13 But ait will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
14 aTherefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will1 answer;
15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom awhich all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or1 resist.
16 aYou will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put bsome of you to death.
17 And ayou will be hated by all for My name’s sake.
18 aBut not a hair of your head shall be lost.
19 By your patience possess your souls.

The Destruction of Jerusalem

20 a“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.
21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.

What Does Luke 21:14 Mean?

Luke 21:7-28

In verses 7-19, Jesus informs us about the visible signs of world events which signal that the end is near. In verses 20-24, He is still talking about these visible signs, but specifically about those that involve Jerusalem. Verses 25-28 describe the cataclysmic events in the sky and on the earth, heralding His imminent return. Thus, through verse 28, our Savior reveals to us the events presaging His return in the world (verses 7-19), in Jerusalem (verses 20-24), and in the sky and earth (verses 25-28).

Luke 21:13-19

This is the next set of conditions on the horizon. Surviving this will require a great deal of trust in God's loving faithfulness. Jesus urges us to take action right now in yielding to God because these conditions will deceive large numbers of people. Changes will occur in such a gradual way as to make it appear as though conditions are really not all that bad.
