John 6:28
Compare all
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27 aDo not labor for the food which perishes, but bfor the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, cbecause God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, a“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 Therefore they said to Him, a“What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?
31 aOur fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, b‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but aMy Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

What Does John 6:28 Mean?

John 6:28-29

The purpose of the manifestation of the works of God in Christ—the miracles, the feeding of 5,000, of 4,000, the healing of people, restoring sight, giving people hearing—were all done by God to produce faith so that we would believe. If God did these things for all of those people, would He not do the same for us? God is shaping and molding events in our lives so that our faith is continually strengthened. God wants us to trust Him and His Word and to respond in faith.

Faith (Part Three)

John 6:28

Understanding the tenor of the times, we can understand this. They felt that all they had to do was to do some work that God commanded them to do, and salvation would be theirs. They did not understand about faith, justification, and grace. They were looking for a magic formula that would get them salvation. They were trying to get salvation—not give their lives to God.
