Robertson's Word Pictures (NT)
Many came to him (polloi hlqon prov auton). Jesus was busy here and in a more congenial atmosphere than Jerusalem. John wrought no signs the crowds recall, though Jesus did many here (Matthew 19:2). The crowds still bear the impress of John's witness to Christ as "true" (alhqh). Here was prepared soil for Christ.
