1 Corinthians 14:33
Compare all
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 And athe spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not the author of1 confusion but of peace, aas in all the churches of the saints.
34 aLet1 your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the blaw also says.
35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached?
37 aIf anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But1 if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Therefore, brethren, adesire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

What Does 1 Corinthians 14:33 Mean?

God works through one man at a time, avoiding confusion that would arise from multiple ambassadors speaking differing messages. Confusion about the voice He speaks through divides the church, sending people their own ways. God leads believers into groups to submit to the voice sent to restore doctrine, transforming them through right choices. He created with perfection and does all things in an organized manner. Resisting His design and authority complicates life, while order brings simplicity and peace. The Corinthian church, marked by fighting and cliques, shows God did not cause such division.

1 Corinthians 14:33

God originally created the earth with such perfection and beauty that the angels shouted with joy! Our Creator does all things in an organized manner and completes all His works in exquisite splendor. But the earth had somehow become formless and chaotic so that God had to refashion it before man could be created.

1 Corinthians 14:33

God continuously, from the beginning of the Book on, reveals Himself working through one man at a time. Does God send two or three or five ambassadors speaking somewhat different things to the same country at the same time? That would be confusion, and "God is not the author of confusion" (I Corinthians 14:33). He avoids confusion by speaking through one voice, and we need to understand that. We need to believe it and make it a part of the operation of our lives. When we become confused about the voice God is speaking through, the church tends to blow apart, and people go their own way.

To restore the holiness of His name and to guarantee that we enter into His Kingdom, God leads us into groups where we can continue to be sustained until we learn this bitter but very vital lesson and submit to Him by following the voice that He sent into this world to restore and preach the doctrine to which He wants us to conform. He does this so that we will be transformed into the image that He wants by our making right and holy choices.

What kind of leadership would it show God to have if He spoke in a confused tongue, as it were, having two or more men in the same area saying different things about the path to the Kingdom of God? Doctrine is that recipe that will form the correct product in the end—if it is believed and applied in our lives through the choices we make.
