Philippians 3:4

2 ^aBeware of dogs, beware of ^bevil workers, ^cbeware of the mutilation!

3 For we are ^athe circumcision, ^bwho worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,

4 though ^aI also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I ^bmore so:

5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, ^aof the tribe of Benjamin, ^ba Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, ^ca Pharisee;

6 concerning zeal, ^apersecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7 But ^awhat things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.

So remember, righteousness requires three things: right thinking, right attitude, and right doing. In Philippians 3:4-6, Paul provides his credentials as a zealous Pharisee. He says concerning the righteousness within the law, he was blameless. What an audacious statement! Concerning the righteousness in the law, he was blameless, he says. But as he looks back on his former self-righteous self, he starts to repent here.
