Robertson's Word Pictures (NT)
Guard that which is committed unto thee (thn paraqhkhn fulacon). "Keep (aorist of urgency) the deposit." Paraqhkhn (from paratiqhmi, to place beside as a deposit, II Timothy 2:2), a banking figure, common in the papyri in this sense for the Attic parakataqhkh (Textus Receptus here, II Timothy 1:12, II Timothy 1:14). See substantive also in II Timothy 1:12, II Timothy 1:14.
Turning away from (ektrepomenov). Present middle participle of ektrepw, for which see I Timothy 1:6; I Timothy 5:15.
Babblings (kenofwniav). From kenofwnov, uttering emptiness. Late and rare compound, in N.T. only here and II Timothy 2:16.
Oppositions (antiqeseiv). Old word (anti, qesiv), antithesis, only here in N.T.
Of the knowledge which is falsely so called (thv yeudwnumou gnwsewv). "Of the falsely named knowledge." Old word (yeudhs, onoma). Our "pseudonymous." Only here in N.T.
