So Christ also glorified not himself to be made a high priest, but he that spake unto him, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee:

So too Christ (the Messiah) did not exalt Himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed {and} exalted by Him Who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have begotten You;

Contemporary English Version
That is how it was with Christ. He became a high priest, but not just because he wanted the honor of being one. It was God who told him, "You are my Son, because today I have become your Father!"

Thus the Christ also has not glorified himself to be made a high priest; but he who had said to him, *Thou* art my Son, *I* have to-day begotten thee.
