21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 aWho is a liar but he who denies that bJesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.  
23 aWhoever denies the Son does not have the bFather either; che who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.  

Let Truth Abide in You

24 Therefore let that abide in you awhich you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, byou also will abide in the Son and in the Father.  
25 aAnd this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.  
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to1 deceive you.  
27 But the aanointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and byou do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing cteaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you1 will abide in Him.

What Does 1 John 2:23 Mean?



1 John 2:22-23

The denial "that Jesus is the Christ" does not imply that the Docetists thought Jesus was not the Messiah. Rather, the Docetists claimed that Jesus—the Man whom John had heard, seen and touched—was not truly God in the flesh and that the true Christ was an ethereal being in heaven. John argues that such a teaching denies the family relationship of the Father and the Son, obscuring the true nature of God.

Furthermore, John writes, anyone who denies that Jesus was God in the flesh, subject to temptation just like all human beings, "does not have the Father either." Such a person simply does not understand the gospel message that we have the opportunity to become members of the God Family (I John 3:1-2). Jesus says, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" (John 14:9). If we distort the image of Jesus Christ and who He was, we end up altering our concept of the Father also.
