Revelation 19:6
Compare all
4 And athe twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, b“Amen! Alleluia!”
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, a“Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, bboth small and great!”
6 aAnd I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For bthe Lord God Omnipotent reigns!
7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for athe marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”
8 And ato her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, bfor the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
9 Then he said to me, “Write: a‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, b“These are the true sayings of God.”
10 And aI fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, b“See that you do not do that! I am your cfellow servant, and of your brethren dwho have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the etestimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Christ on a White Horse

11 aNow I saw heaven opened, and behold, ba white horse. And He who sat on him was called cFaithful and True, and din righteousness He judges and makes war.
12 aHis eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. bHe had a name written that no one knew except Himself.
13 aHe was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called bThe Word of God.
14 aAnd the armies in heaven, bclothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
15 Now aout of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And bHe Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. cHe Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And aHe has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: bKING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

The Beast and His Armies Defeated

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, a“Come and gather together for the1 supper of the great God,
18 athat you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people,1 free and slave, both small and great.”

What Does Revelation 19:6 Mean?

As the Book nears its end, Revelation 19 brings marriage and God's blessing on it once again to center stage, presenting a prophetic portrayal of the ultimate marriage between Jesus Christ and His bride. God's blessing goes out to those who comprise this wife. Human marriages are types of this greater spiritual marriage, representing on the human plane the union between God and man. Just as the sexual bond makes a man and woman one flesh, a close spiritual unity between God and a converted human being makes them one spirit, as Paul writes, "he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." God will endue physical marriage with the ability to create unity, preparing partners for their ultimate union with Him.

Revelation 19:6-9

God blesses marriage in the first chapter of Genesis, and it is interesting that as the Book nears its end, in Revelation 19, marriage and His blessing on it once again take center stage. Clearly, the institution of marriage has a far higher purpose than just the physical union of a man and a woman.

Here we have a prophetic portrayal of the ultimate marriage, and God's blessing goes out to those who comprise the wife—the bride—of Jesus Christ. This blessing in Revelation 19:9 gives the blessing in Genesis 1:28 its true context. Our human marriages are types of this greater spiritual marriage. The experiences that we go through during a blessed physical marriage are designed by God to prepare us for our part in the ultimate intimate relationship with our Savior.

Marriage is a representation on the human plane of union between God and man. A similar intimacy exists in both relationships. Just as the sexual bond between a man and woman makes them "one flesh" (Genesis 2:24; see I Corinthians 6:16), a close, spiritual unity between God and a converted human being—which Jesus says is "to know" God in John 17:3 (compare this term to the sexual imagery of Genesis 4:1)—makes them "one spirit." On this, the apostle Paul writes in I Corinthians 6:17, "But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him" (see also Ephesians 4:4). Physical marriage, then, can teach us how to be spiritually one with God.

Just as surely as God will bless the union between His Son and the Bride, He will also endue the physical type with the ability to fulfill its purpose—that is, to create unity between marriage partners to prepare them for union with God.
