Revelation 21:10-11
Excerpted from: The Radiance of God's Glory

The apostle John described the wonder of the New Heavens and New Earth by highlighting the holy city at its center. In the New Jerusalem, God's people will enjoy unhindered worship and fellowship under the great King, Jesus Christ.

The final pictures of light that we see in the Bible appear in John's vision of the New Jerusalem, the city of God in the book of Revelation. The New Jerusalem comes down from heaven, shining with the glory of God. Its radiance is like a rare jewel.

Starting at verse 22, the passage describes the glory of the New Jerusalem. The city does not need the sun or moon to shine because God's glory illuminates it and its lamp is the Lamb. Illuminated by God's overwhelming glory, the holy city no longer needs a temple. However, spiritually, it still has a temple because the Lord God and the Lamb are its temple.
