Leviticus 26:21
Compare all
19 I will abreak the pride of your power;
I bwill make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.
20 And your astrength shall be spent in vain;
for your bland shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.
21 ‘Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.
22 aI will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number;
and byour highways shall be desolate.
23 ‘And if aby these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,
24 athen I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

Leviticus 26:21-41

Any word repeated exactly seven times in a passage is the crucial word in that section. Leviticus 26 contains horrifying details of the consequences when God’s covenant with Israel is shattered. In Leviticus 26:21-41, the word repeated seven times is keri. It means casual, random and mindless. These verses indicate that of all the damaging results of relating to God with unthinking casualness, the worst is that He subsequently relates to us in exactly the same way. This is the principle of reciprocity!

Leviticus 26:14-29

Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 are the "blessings and cursings" chapters of the Bible. It may have been quite some time since last we read these sections. Consider these scriptures in light of what we have just discussed: the increasing pressure that God applies in order to draw us closer to Him and to stop taking Him for granted. We will look at the section in Leviticus here.

Can we see how these curses are increasingly intensified each time Israel fails to repent of neglecting God?
