Genesis 21:8-9
Excerpted from: Ishmael

Now another place it was translated mocking. Some say that he was laughing at Isaac in a derogatory way making fun of his name, which means “laughter.” And what this did was create a conflict, and Hagar and Ishmael got sent away. This is the sort of thing that has been happening ever since between Isaac's children and Ishmael's children.

Genesis 21:8-9
Excerpted from: God as Father

The first son of Abraham was Ishmael, and he grew up to be a scoffer and mocker. Back in Genesis 16, he was prophesied to become a wild man, hostile toward every one. Every man's hand would be against him, and his hand would be against every man. It is interesting.

Genesis 21:8-9
Excerpted from: The Angel of God

I will just let you know that this word could also be translated laughing. And probably what we have is a good indication that what [Ishmael and] Hagar were doing was she [he] was making fun of Isaac, whose name was laughter. Right?
