Job 2:1-3
Excerpted from: Decide Now How You Will Respond!Now Satan had a cause or a reason for doing it. It was to discredit God, and God was accomplishing His cause and/or purpose. In Job 1:9, Satan used the same term "for nothing" to accuse Job of having an ulterior purpose for serving God. The accuser said, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" And then God uses the same term here in verse 3 where He says, "You incite Me against him to destroy him without cause." Well, the term "for nothing" and the term "without cause" have the same basic meaning.
So God threw it back in his face, in one sense, his own accusation. God taunted the accuser with the counter-accusation that Satan himself is the one who wants to see injustice done. Without cause means there was no immediate sinfulness in Job that called for punishment.
