Job 30:8
Compare all
6 They had to live in the clefts of the1 valleys,
In1 caves of the earth and the rocks.
7 Among the bushes they brayed,
Under the nettles they nestled.
8 They were sons of fools,
Yes, sons of vile men;
They were scourged from the land.
9 “Anda now I am their taunting song;
Yes, I am their byword.
10 They abhor me, they keep far from me;
They do not hesitate ato spit in my face.
11 Because aHe has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me,
They have cast off restraint before me.
12 At my right hand the rabble arises;
They push away my feet,
And athey raise against me their ways of destruction.

Job 30:8

fools—that is, the impious and abandoned (I Samuel 25:25).

base—nameless, low-born rabble.

viler than, etc.—rather, they were driven or beaten out of the land. The Horites in Mount Seir (Genesis 14:6 with which compare Genesis 36:20-21; Deuteronomy 2:12, Deuteronomy 2:22) were probably the aborigines, driven out by the tribe to which Job's ancestors belonged; their name means troglodytæ, or "dwellers in caves." To these Job alludes here (Job 30:1-8, and Genesis 24:4-8, which compare together).
