Psalms 8:4
Compare all
2 aOut of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have1 ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence bthe enemy and the avenger.
3 When I aconsider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 aWhat is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You bvisit him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than1 the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
6 aYou have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
bYou have put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.
9 aO Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

<< Psalms 8:3   Psalms 8:5 >>

Psalms 8:4

man—literally, "frail man," an allusion to his essential infirmity.

son of man—only varies the form of speech.

visitest—in favor (Psalms 65:10). This favor is now more fully illustrated.

Psalms 8:3-4

The allusion to the magnificence of the visible heavens is introduced for the purpose of illustrating God's condescension, who, though the mighty Creator of these glorious worlds of light, makes man the object of regard and recipient of favor.
