A Plea for Deliverance and Forgiveness

A Psalm of David.

1 To aYou, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, I atrust in You;
Let me not be ashamed;
bLet not my enemies triumph over me.
3 Indeed, let no one who1 waits on You be ashamed;
Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.
4 aShow me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.
6 Remember, O Lord, aYour tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses,
For they are from of old.

Psalms 25:1

The general tone of this Psalm is that of prayer for help from enemies. Distress, however, exciting a sense of sin, humble confession, supplication for pardon, preservation from sin, and divine guidance, are prominent topics. (Psa. 25:1-22)

lift up my soul— (Psalms 24:4; Psalms 86:4), set my affections (compare Colossians 3:2).
