Psalms 105:10
Compare all
8 He aremembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 aThe covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, a“To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
12 aWhen they were few in number,
Indeed very few, band strangers in it.
13 When they went from one nation to another,
From one kingdom to another people,
14 aHe permitted no one to do them wrong;
Yes, bHe rebuked kings for their sakes,
15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
16 Moreover aHe called for a famine in the land;
He destroyed all the bprovision of bread.
17 aHe sent a man before them—
Joseph—who bwas sold as a slave.
18 aThey hurt his feet with fetters,
1He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
aThe word of the Lord tested him.
20 aThe king sent and released him,
The ruler of the people let him go free.
21 aHe made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his possessions,
22 To1 bind his princes at his pleasure,
And teach his elders wisdom.
23 aIsrael also came into Egypt,
And Jacob dwelt bin the land of Ham.
24 aHe increased His people greatly,
And made them stronger than their enemies.
25 aHe turned their heart to hate His people,
To deal craftily with His servants.

Psalms 105:10-11

Alluding to God's promise to Jacob (Genesis 28:13). Out of the whole storehouse of the promises of God, only one is prominently brought forward, namely, that concerning the possession of Canaan [Psalms 105:11]. Everything revolves around this. The wonders and judgments have all for their ultimate design the fulfilment of this promise.

Psalms 105:8-11

The covenant was often ratified.

word—answering to "covenant" [Psalms 105:9] in the parallel clause, namely, the word of promise, which, according to Psalms 105:10, He set forth for an inviolable law.

commanded—or, "ordained" (Psalms 68:28).

to a thousand generations—perpetually. A verbal allusion to Deuteronomy 7:9 (compare Exodus 20:6).
