Psalms 118:9

7 ^aThe Lord is for me among those who help me;
Therefore ^bI shall see my desire on those who hate me.

8 ^aIt is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.

9 ^aIt is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.

10 All nations surrounded me,
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

11 They ^asurrounded me,
Yes, they surrounded me;
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

What Does Psalms 118:9 Mean?

Psalm 118:8-9

These verses do not say we should not follow a man; they say we should not put our trust in men despite their high status in society or government. No matter how much power or influence they can exert on our behalf in this world, they are not to be trusted as we trust in God.
