Psalms 119:85

Compare all

83 For ^aI have become like a wineskin in smoke,
Yet I do not forget Your statutes.

84 ^aHow many are the days of Your servant?
^bWhen will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?

85 ^aThe proud have dug pits for me,
Which is not according to Your law.

86 All Your commandments are faithful;
They persecute me ^awrongfully;
Help me!

87 They almost made an end of me on earth,
But I did not forsake Your precepts.

88 Revive me according to Your lovingkindness,
So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

ל Lamed

89 ^aForever, O Lord,
Your word¹ is settled in heaven.

Psalms 119:85

The proud have digged pits - The Vulgate, Septuagint, Ethiopic, and Arabic, translate this verse thus: "They have recited to me unholy fables, which are not according to thy law." They wish us to receive their system of idolatry, and the tales concerning their gods; but these are not according to thy law. The Anglo-Saxon is the same: They quothed me the unrightwise spells; but no so so law thine.
