Proverbs 6:22
Compare all

Beware of Adultery

20 aMy son, keep your father’s command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21 aBind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
22 aWhen you roam,1 they will lead you;
When you sleep, bthey will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 aFor the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 aTo keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 aDo not lust after her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26 For aby means of a harlot
A man is reduced to a crust of bread;
bAnd1 an adulteress will cprey upon his precious life.

Proverbs 6:22

it—(compare Proverbs 6:23); denotes the instruction of parents (Proverbs 6:20), to which all the qualities of a safe guide and guard and ready teacher are ascribed. It prevents the ingress of evil by supplying good thoughts, even in dreams (Proverbs 3:21-23; Psalms 19:9; II Peter 1:19).
