Proverbs 6:23
Compare all
21 aBind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
22 aWhen you roam,1 they will lead you;
When you sleep, bthey will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 aFor the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 aTo keep you from the evil woman,
From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 aDo not lust after her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.

Proverbs 6:23

Here the symbolism of light or lamp is used in order to show direction that is received as a result of an understanding of God's Word. In other words the person can walk, live his life, because light, truth, is given to him.
