Proverbs 8:12
Compare all
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choice gold;
11 aFor wisdom is better than rubies,
And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And find out knowledge and discretion.
13 aThe fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
bPride and arrogance and the evil way
And cthe perverse mouth I hate.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, aI have strength.
15 aBy me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.

Proverbs 8:11-23

This is what Adam and Eve had in full before taking from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This absolutely solid foundation built on the truth of God’s Word and wisdom! But since the moment they took from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil the foundation of everything men have ever done has been cursed with cracks apart from the foundation that is in Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 8:12-13

Here, wisdom is personified. It says that wisdom, along with prudence, hates pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. Wisdom is adamantly opposed to those things. And in this context, then, the fear of the LORD is defined as hating evil.
