Proverbs 25:27
Compare all
25 As cold water to a weary soul,
So is agood news from a far country.
26 A righteous man who falters before the wicked
Is like a murky spring and a1 polluted well.
27 It is not good to eat much honey;
So ato seek one’s own glory is not glory.
28 aWhoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.

Proverbs 25:27

Satiety surfeits (Proverbs 25:16); so men who are self-glorious find shame.

is not glory—"not" is supplied from the first clause, or "is grievous," in which sense a similar word is used (Proverbs 27:2).
