But ^bhappy is he who keeps the law.

19 A servant will not be corrected by mere words;
For though he understands, he will not respond.

20 Do you see a man hasty in his words?
^aThere is more hope for a fool than for him.

21 He who pampers his servant from childhood
Will have him as a son in the end.

22 ^aAn angry man stirs up strife,
And a furious man abounds in transgression.

Proverbs 29:20

Proverbs 29:20 asks us if we have seen a man hasty in his words, warning that “there is more hope for a fool than for him.” The Amplified edition adds a few more vivid details: “Do you see a [conceited] man who speaks quickly [offering his opinions or answering without thinking]? There is more hope for a [thickheaded] fool than for him.”
