Excerpted from: Agur's PrayerSo the chapter starts as Agur, the son of Jakeh, is speaking to Ithiel and Ucal, possibly students or maybe his friends. But Agur's identity is not as important as the character that he displays. He insists that he has no great wisdom or understanding and in verse 2 says, "Surely I am more stupid than any man, and have not the understanding of a man." The humility continues in verse 3, "I neither learned wisdom nor have the knowledge of the Holy One."
He is clearly humble and wise despite his claims, and he goes on in verse 4, which sounds a lot like God's conversation with Job. "Who has ascended into heaven, and descended?. . . What is His name and what is His Son's name, if you know?" John 3:13 reveals that to be Jesus Christ, of course. And in verses 5 and 6, He instructs us to trust in God's pure words. Not to add or take away from them, and He will be a shield to us. David echoes this in Psalm 23:1.

Excerpted from: Freedom and Unleavened BreadThe word "pure" might be better translated "refined." What it means is, what is in the background, is that people have put it to the test and it works. That's why the advice comes. It's been refined. It's as pure as can be gotten. Then he adds to it, "Don't add to it and it will be a shield to you."

Excerpted from: Revelation 2-3 and WorksThe word that is translated "pure" is actually more closely related to the English word "refined." Pure is not wrong but the word "refined" means "reduced to a pure state." Look it up in the English. It means that every word of God is reduced to a pure state.
