Isaiah 66:2
Excerpted from: Faith (Part Seven)God says, you want to impress Me? You want to impress Me by building Me a wonderful temple which you can point to and say, "Look what we've done for God. Look how much we love our God. Look at all those jewels that we donated. Look how much we sacrificed." God says,
God makes the diamonds. God makes the marble. God makes the granite. God makes the trees grow. God designed the beauty in those trees. God made the wood to shine and give its warmth and sense of awe that we think that we have brought to it. What is it that we have that we did not receive?
Do you want to impress God? Do you want to get His attention? Do you want Him to turn His face toward you? Do you want His face to shine on you? Do you want Him to smile at you? Do you want Him to love you, to respond to you, to hear your prayers?
If you want to impress God, it is humility that impresses Him. Because pride gets between us and God and without realizing it, we actually shut Him out of our lives.
Isaiah 66:2
Excerpted from: The Third Tithe BlessingNow, the request for a blessing comes in verse 15. Given that everything affirmed before it is true, the person says, “Look down from Your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel . . ..” That “looking down” acknowledges God’s superiority and how high He is above us. It also has a similar sense to Isaiah 66:2, where God says, “On this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.” It means to look on him with favor—to have the Creator God, the Almighty, turn His attention. That’s what this request is doing. It is asking the God of the universe to turn His attention for the sake of bestowing favor as only He can.

Excerpted from: Azazel: BeginningsSometimes pride or fear keep us from taking an honest look at a matter, and allowing that we may be mistaken. Yet God says, . . . on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word (Isaiah 66:2). If we desire for God to look on us favorably, trembling at His word must be our guiding principle. Proverbs 28:26 says bluntly, he who trusts in his own heart is a fool. We must always seek witnesses of Scripture to ensure that a teaching has more support than just human reasoning.

It is certainly not hard to understand. Humility impresses Him and humility (as I Peter 5 and James 5 very clearly show) is a choice. It is something we choose to do; we choose to submit to God. That is what Christ did: He humbly submitted to God even to death.
