Corrupt Priests

1 “And now, O apriests, this commandment is for you.
2 aIf you will not hear,
And if you will not take it to heart,
To give glory to My name,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“I will send a curse upon you,
And I will curse your blessings.
Yes, I have cursed them balready,
Because you do not take it to heart.
3 “Behold, I will rebuke your descendants
And spread arefuse on your faces,
The refuse of your solemn feasts;
And one will btake you away with it.
4 Then you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you,
That My covenant with Levi may continue,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
5 “Mya covenant was with him, one of life and peace,
And I gave them to him bthat he might fear Me;
So he feared Me
And was reverent before My name.
6 aThe1 law of truth was in his mouth,
And1 injustice was not found on his lips.
He walked with Me in peace and equity,
And bturned many away from iniquity.
7 “Fora the lips of a priest should keep knowledge,
And people should seek the law from his mouth;
bFor he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

Malachi 2:3

I will corrupt - I will take away the prolific virtue and strength of it, that it shall bring forth no fruit. Spread dung - It is an expression of the greatest contempt. Of your solemn feasts - Your most solemn days and feasts, shall be as loathsome to me as dung, and shall make you, who offer them as unclean, and loathsome, as if I had thrown the dung of those sacrifices into your faces. Take you away - You shall be taken away with it, removed as equally unclean with the dung itself, equally fit to be cast out to the dunghill.
