Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

16 “Moreover, awhen you fast, do not be like the1 hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Matthew 6:12

Matthew 6:12 Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Debts means moral obligations unfulfilled—our shortcomings, our sins. Let it be noted with emphasis that God is asked to forgive us as we forgive others. We ask, in other words, that he may mete out to us what we measure to others.
