Who Is the Greatest?

1 At athat time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 Then Jesus called a little achild to Him, set him in the midst of them,
3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, aunless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 aTherefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 aWhoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

Matthew 18:2

Called to him (proskalesamenov). Indirect middle voice aorist participle. It may even be Peter's "little child" (paidion) as it was probably in Peter's house (Mark 9:33).

Set him (esthsen). Transitive first aorist active indicative, not intransitive second aorist, esth.

In the midst of them (en mesw autwn). Luke adds (Luke 9:47) "by his side" (par eautw). Both are true.
