11 But He said to them, a“All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given:
12For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and athere are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”
Jesus Blesses Little Children
13aThen little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.
14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for aof such is the kingdom of heaven.”
15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.
Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler
16aNow behold, one came and said to Him, b“Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
Rebuked them (epetimhsen autoiv). No doubt people did often crowd around Jesus for a touch of his hand and his blessing. The disciples probably felt that they were doing Jesus a kindness. How little they understood children and Jesus. It is a tragedy to make children feel that they are in the way at home and at church. These men were the twelve apostles and yet had no vision of Christ's love for little children. The new child world of today is due directly to Jesus.
