Exodus 32:12

10 Now therefore, ^alet Me alone, that ^bMy wrath may burn hot against them and I may¹ consume them. And ^cI will make of you a great nation.”

11 ^aThen Moses pleaded with¹ the Lord his God, and said: “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

12 ^aWhy should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and ^brelent from this harm to Your people.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You ^aswore by Your own self, and said to them, ^b‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”

14 So the Lord ^arelented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.

15 And ^aMoses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the Testimony were in his hand. The tablets were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.

God does not lie. And no doubt, He would have done what He said, but the point is that He was looking for something else. Moses, as he was being prepared, became an intercessor. He put forth before God what His promises were; he knew them well. And he knew that he did not want to do anything that would bring shame upon God before the world.

Moses was prepared to do a work that from this point forward. As you read above, God said, “For your people whom you brought out.” From this point forward, Moses the one who commanded them. He led them. God gave him the power to do it. He prepared him for this great task. And this was part of the preparation. Moses selflessly turned away from himself—he could have become a great nation. This is an incredible thing to think about.

Exodus 32:12-13

So all Moses did was point out God's promise to take them into the land and give them the Promised Land and remind God of that. God was well aware of that but for whatever reason, God accepts those issues that people point out in their prayers. It has an impact.
