Luke 22:61
Compare all
59 aThen after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a bGalilean.”
60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking,1 the rooster crowed.
61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then aPeter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, b“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Mocked and Beaten

63 aNow the men who held Jesus mocked Him and bbeat Him.
64 1And having blindfolded Him, they astruck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?”

Luke 22:61

The Lord turned (strafeiv o kuriov). Second aorist passive participle of strefw, coming verb. Graphic picture drawn by Luke alone.

Looked upon Peter (enebleyen tw Petrw). Ingressive aorist active indicative of enblepw, an old and vivid verb, to glance at.

Remembered (upemnhsqh). First aorist passive indicative of upomimnhskw, common verb to remind one of something (upo giving a suggestion or hint). The cock crowing and the look brought swiftly back to Peter's mind the prophecy of Jesus and his sad denials. The mystery is how he had forgotten that warning.
