43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in aParadise.”

44 aNow it1 was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.  
45 Then the sun was1 darkened, and athe veil of the temple was torn in2 two.  
46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, a‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” bHaving said this, He breathed His last.  
47 aSo when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

Luke 23:44

There was darkness over all the earth - The noon - tide darkness, covering the sun, obscured all the upper hemisphere. And the lower was equally darkened, the moon being in opposition to the sun, and so receiving no light from it. Matthew 27:45.
