John 8:3
Compare all
1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Now1 early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and ataught them.
3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,
4 they said to Him, “Teacher,1 this woman was caught in aadultery, in the very act.
5 aNow Moses, in the law, commanded us2 that such should be stoned. But what do You3 say?”
6 This they said, testing Him, that they amight have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger,1 as though He did not hear.
7 So when they continued asking Him, He1 raised Himself up and said to them, a“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 Then those who heard it, abeing convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had raised Himself up1 and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers2 of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, a“Neither do I condemn you; go and bsin no more.”
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, a“I am the light of the world. He who bfollows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Jesus Defends His Self-Witness

John 8:3-11

John 8:3-11 illustrates what God wants to see. Stated in a simple phrase, Jesus Christ says, "Go and sin no more."

Repentance means to quit sinning, and sinning is the breaking of God's spiritual law. Therefore, repentance means to begin living according to God's Commandments. God's Commandments are God's laws enforced by His government—His Kingdom. This means that we must be obedient to His laws, which are His will, instead of our own self-will.

Repentance is something begun and required by God before baptism, and it is something that we must do for the rest of our lives. Romans 3:23 tells us we are all sinners. And we know from experience that we have constant need of this attitude of repentance.
