John 14:26
Compare all
24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and athe word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

The Gift of His Peace

25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.
26 But athe Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will bsend in My name, cHe will teach you all things, and bring to your dremembrance all things that I said to you.
27 aPeace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 You have heard Me asay to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because1 I said, b‘I am going to the Father,’ for cMy Father is greater than I.
29 “And anow I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.
30 I will no longer talk much with you, afor the ruler of this world is coming, and he has bnothing in Me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and aas the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

What Does John 14:26 Mean?

For those in the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit teaches and brings to remembrance, replacing the ceremonial law and washings. No human scholarship comprehends God's truth apart from the Spirit; only through its intervention does God open minds to the mysteries vital to salvation. The Spirit imparts wisdom, comforts, and aids prayer. Someone with the Spirit understands what lifelong readers cannot. The Helper, the Parakletos, is equated with the Holy Spirit and, when letting Scripture interpret itself, with Christ Himself (II Corinthians 3:17; I John 2:1). Christ's language here is figurative, like His teachings about the door, shepherd, and being born again. Though the Father, and Christ Himself, "send" the Helper, they operate as One, bringing their indwelling into the minds of the elect.

John 14:26

No man - by scholarship, human reason, or intelligence - can comprehend the whole truth of God apart from the Holy Spirit. Only by the intervention of the Spirit are we called to understand it. God, by divine revelation through the help of the Spirit, opens our minds to the "mysteries" of the truth, allowing us to discern what is truly vital to our salvation.

John 14:26

God's Spirit imparts wisdom and understanding. It teaches His way of life, comforts, and helps us. Even when we cannot express ourselves in our prayers, the Spirit aids us in making our requests before God.

John 14:26

For those who have made the New Covenant with God, it is the Holy Spirit that teaches and brings to remembrance—not the ceremonial law! Hebrews 10:3 shows that the sacrifices were only a reminder of sin. Today, the Holy Spirit is the reminder, triggering thoughts in our minds. In addition, because God has made the Spirit available, the various washings that are emblematic of God's Spirit are also set aside. Here are clear statements that the imposition of those ceremonial regulations has been lifted.
