John 15:9-14
Having love does not nullify God's law. John, an apostle and close friend of Jesus Christ, emphasized love. However, not once did he say that love nullifies or supersedes the Ten Commandments. Indeed, by keeping the commandments, the love of God is perfected in us (I John 2:5). The Ten Commandments constitute a spiritual law that is inexorable and eternal, producing faith and happiness and righteous character that pleases God.

What Does John 15:9 Mean?
To abide means to continue in or remain in, being part of an ongoing process. Love is defined as keeping God's commandments, which does not nullify or supersede the Ten Commandments but perfects God's love in us. Abiding in Christ's love means remaining in a two-sided relationship kept going by mutual respect, honor, concern, and goodwill. Obedience shows this relationship exists. There is a mystical union between God and us, and continuing in Him requires conforming to His likes and dislikes, otherwise intimacy dissolves. Working on this relationship produces reciprocated love and joy. Jesus lived by God's Word, laying down His life for His friends. Loving one's brother matters, since sins hurt others. Everything spiritual depends on Christ, emulating Him in all things.
